Super Eagles team ‘B’ Coach Stephen Keshi says he is joyful for his players after they qualified for next year’s African Nations Championship in South Africa.

Nigeria lost 2-0 to Ivory Coast in Abidjan, but progressed 4-3 on aggregate after their 4-1 victory over the Ivorians in Kaduna.

Keshi says the qualification it is all down to the players’ hard work in both legs of the encounter.

“This was very important for us because we’ve never qualified before and I’m just happy for the players, my thoughts are for them because they worked so hard and we pushed them so hard. And I wanted to see them there,” said Keshi.

Goals in the fifth and 25 minutes from Sewe Sport striker Kevin Zougloula put the Ivorians into a two-goal lead in the first half, and Keshi admitted that his boys were slow off the blocks.

“We were a little bit shaky, it took about 25 minutes for them to stabilize and play our game. But I didn’t have any doubts. I knew if my boys could be calm and concentrate, we would score a goal.

“We came in here to qualify and it was a good game. Very entertaining game, good quality from both sides and I’m glad that my players can now get this experience and it will help us in our national team.

“And it will also be a good platform for them to join the national team for the World Cup,” he disclosed.

The Super Eagles over the weekend broke the jinx that has seen her miss the first two editions of the CHAN tournament exclusively for footballers plying their trade in their country’s domestic League.
