Josiah’s brace downs Kwara Utd

Sunshine Stars FC have recored an emphatic 3-1 win over visiting Kawara United in a Glo Premier League match played at the Akure Township Stadium on Sunday.

The Akure Gunners were superior in the matchday 22 clash as they bagged the maximum points and send the Afonja Warriors back to Ilorin empty handed.

Sunshines Stars raced into the lead through Christian Josiah’s strike in the 12th minute. Two minutes later, Josiah completed his brace when he scored his second goal of the match to double the host advantage.

Sunshine Stars Alaba Adeniyi then took the game beyond the Afonja Warriors when he scored in the 22nd minute to send the Akure Gunners into a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, Stanley Dimgba pulled a goal back for the Ilorin club in the 33rd minute and both teams ended the first half 3-1.

On the resumption of the second half, Sunshine were still the better side and they an opportunity to add to their tally, but league top scorer Dele Olorundare who was released by Super Eagles coaches to play the all important match failed to convert from the penalty spot.

Kwara United also made some attempts to reduce the deficit, but all efforts met a formidable defense of Sunshine.

With this victory, Sunshine now have 31 points from 22 games while Kwara United are still on 34 points from same number of matches.
