Bayelsa pip Pillars to join title race

Bayelsa United ensure they scoop all the points against Kano Pillars after they triumphed 1-0 in a controversial matchday 22 Glo Premier League clash played at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Saturday.

After a hard fought first half that saw both teams ended goals, Salomon Junior headed home the only goal of the match via Odili Iyasele’s free-kick in the 75th minute to give the hosts the victory against the reigning Nigerian League champions.

The three points has elevated Bayelsa United to second on the League table with 36 points from 22 games, while Kano Pillars are still top of the table with 39 points from 22 games despite the defeat.

Pillars will now shift their attentions to the Federation Cup Round of 16 tie clash against Premier League rivals, Gombe United in Jos on Wednesday as part of their quest to clinch a double this season.

Bayelsa United, having crashed out of the 2013 Federation Cup will be preparing for their week 23 tie against Wikki Tourists slated for August 3.
